Few businesses are found under worse conditions than a funeral director. The person searching is usually a son, a daughter or a spouse, often within hours of a death, frequently late at night, and rarely able to read a long page. They look at two or three local names, form an impression in seconds, and ring the one that felt safest.

Independent firms carry a real inheritance here: generations of families in the same streets, staff who live locally, a name that means something. What they rarely have is the budget of the national groups, some of which trade under long-established local names while buying the same search terms every month. The gap is not in what the independent offers, but in how findable that offer is at two in the morning.

Our work is to make an independent firm easy to find, understand and contact, without adopting the language of selling. No countdowns, no offers, no urgency devices. Restraint here is not a stylistic preference. It is the whole proposition.

Clear Pricing Is a Legal Duty and the Strongest Trust Signal You Have

The CMA’s Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021 requires a funeral director to display the Standardised Price List and the Additional Options Price List in a clear and prominent manner in each of its branches and on its website, where it has branches or a website. On the web it goes further: the Standardised Price List must appear as a PDF titled Standardised Price List, on a page no more than one click from the homepage, with the homepage link prominently labelled so the nature of the information is clear. The requirements are in the text of the Order.

In practice, plenty of independent sites bury the list three levels deep or link to a file that went missing in a redesign. That is both a compliance exposure and a wasted opportunity, because what the Order asks for is exactly what the bereaved reader is hunting for.

We treat the price list as a navigational fixture rather than a legal box. That usually means:

  • A homepage link that says what it is, in ordinary words, above the point where most readers stop scrolling.
  • The correctly titled PDF where the Order expects it, rechecked after every theme or hosting change so it does not silently break.
  • A plain-English page explaining what is and is not covered, with disbursements set out separately.

This page is general marketing guidance, not legal or compliance advice. Responsibility for meeting the Order rests with your firm and its regulator, and you should confirm your position against the CMA guidance or your own adviser.

What’s Included for Funeral Directors

Price information published where it belongs

We audit how your price information appears, rebuild the route so it sits one click from the homepage with an unambiguous label, and put a check in place so a future site change does not quietly remove it.

A website that behaves at three in the morning

Fast loading on an older phone over mobile data, a tap-to-call number fixed in view, directions without pinch-zooming, and no pop-ups. Mostly straightforward web development.

Local visibility for the searches that actually happen

People search by town, by crematorium and by the specific thing they need arranging. We structure those pages properly through ongoing SEO rather than one services page covering everything.

Google Business Profile kept accurate

Correct hours including genuine out-of-hours arrangements, a number that reaches a person, accurate branch entries and photographs of the real premises, as described in our Google Business Profile guide.

Reviews handled with tact

Asking a grieving family for a review is delicate and some firms reasonably decline. Where you are willing, we help you choose a quiet moment well after the funeral, keep the request unpressured, and write replies that never discuss a family in public.

Advertising written with restraint

Where paid advertising is appropriate, the copy stays factual and calm. No discount language, no scarcity, no emotive pressure. We would rather lose a click than embarrass you in the town you serve.

How We Deliver

01

1. Review what a stranger sees first

We go through your site as a bereaved person would, on a phone, at speed: where the price list sits, how long the page takes, whether the number is obvious, what tone the words set. Findings come back plainly, including anything worth checking with your adviser.

02

2. Fix the structure before anything else

Price information, contact routes and the pages for each town and service come first, because promoting a site that loses people on arrival is waste. Conversion work precedes spend.

03

3. Build local presence steadily

Profile, listings, town pages and the slow accumulation of useful content about what happens after a death. This is patient work and we say so.

04

4. Measure calls, not impressions

The measure that counts is whether the phone rings and the caller reaches a person. We track calls and form enquiries and report them honestly, including the flat months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly does the Standardised Price List have to go on our website?

As a PDF titled Standardised Price List, one click from the homepage, with the homepage link prominently labelled. We can implement that, but we cannot certify your compliance; confirm it against the CMA’s guidance and take advice if in doubt.

Can you help us promote our pre-paid funeral plans?

Only within limits. The FCA began regulating pre-paid funeral plans on 29 July 2022, with measures including a ban on cold calling and a ban on commission payments to intermediaries such as funeral directors. What you may say depends on your own regulatory position and your provider’s requirements, so we write nothing about plans that both have not approved.

Will you guarantee we appear above the national groups?

No. Nobody can honestly promise a ranking, a number of enquiries or a date by which results appear. We fix what is within our control and show you what changed.

Is it appropriate to ask families for reviews?

That is your judgement, and no is a defensible answer. Where firms do ask, timing and wording matter, and the request should be easy to ignore. We can help either way.

We are a single branch firm. Is this affordable?

Monthly work starts from £399, published rather than negotiated, with no long-term contract. Smaller pieces, such as putting the price list route right, can be done alone. See our industries page and areas we cover.
